Seedlings
Our nurseries specialise in the large-scale production
of both bare-root and containerised forest tree
seedlings, which are cultivated in all climatic conditions
of Slovak Republic, what guarantee immunity to the
entire territory of our country. 75 % of them are used
for our own production and 25 % are sold in domestic
and foreign markets.
OZ Semenoles is a state enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture, which
contains 13 nurseries located on 337 ha from which production area is 230 ha.
We are the largest enterprise in this specific field in Slovakia, with over 85 years
of experience producing quality seeds for nursery raising and nursing seeds. We
are a member of the International Seed Federation (ISF) since 2009.

Certificates
Forest reproductive material is accompanied with a Master Certificate of Identity
for Reproductive material derived from Seed Sources and Stands issued in
accordance with direct VE 1999/105/EC and Accompanying Certificate of Forest
Reproductive Material according to the Act no. 217/2004 on Forest Reproductive
Material and Change of Some Acts and the Decree no. 571/2004 on Source of
Forest Reproductive Material, its Collection, Production, Marketing, and Use.
Sources of forest reproductive material
The use of sound seed from stands of high inherent quality is widely recognised as the best means of ensuring
fast-growing and healthy plantations capable of yielding good quality wood. All of the basic material we collect
is under the three categories: selected material, where the basic material has undergone phenotypic selection
at the population level, qualified material, where there has been phenotypic selection at the individual level.

Seed orchands
OZ Semenoles handles 53 seed orchands of trees such as Picea abies, Picea
omorica, Larix decidua, Pinus sylvestris, Pinus nigra, Abies alba, Quercus
petraea, Fraxinus excelsior, Acer pseudoplatanus, Alnus glutinosa, Cerasus
avium, Betula verrucosa, Tilia cordata on an area of 114 ha.

Capacity and equipment
Our facilities allow us to extract about 200 000 kg of collected seeds a year. In 2008, we
fulfilled the need over 55 000 kg of seeds. The extraction and cleaning of collected seeds is
carried out using a multi-purpose Swedish made BCC seed extractor.
Long-term and shor-term seed storage
In our cold storage facilities, we can store over 50 000 kg of seed and limited amounts of seed for our customers.
Pre-sowing treatment
We provide pre-sowing treatment of seeds to overcome dormancy.
Seed enhancement
We have acheived excellent results in improving the quality of seeds through the process of PREVAC.

Seed bank
OZ Semenoles also maintains a seed bank of some major native tree species from across the country.

Seed quality
All seed lots sold are accompanied by a germination certificate issued by an official ISTA Laboratory.
